Woodworking, which extends from the depths of Turkish history to the present day and enriches the material culture, holds a special place in the cultural fabric of Turks from the past.

The sacred value attributed to the tree in pre-Islamic times in Central Asia found a unique expression in works of art.

Woodworking, evolving during the Seljuk period in Anatolia and acquiring a distinctive character, has become an important component of Turkish culture.

The renowned boxwood products of Taraklı are praised in the travelogue of Evliya Çelebi, who vividly describes the beauty:

"Crossing the bridge to the north, we passed through the forest known as the 'sea of trees' along the Sakarya River. This is a forest where many peculiar individuals, unfamiliar with urban life, have vanished, destined for wild beasts. The scent of laurel, juniper, pine, and linden trees permeates the palate. The sun never casts its influence here. Within these groves, there are numerous woodworking mills producing various wooden tools and ship timbers. These mountains are situated at the intersection of four provinces, truly resembling a sea of trees. One side is Bursa, another side is İzmit, and yet another side is Bolu and Kocaeli provinces. It takes about a month to explore the surroundings."
